Toxic Masculinity Of James Bond In The Skyfall

James Bond, for over 56years, has brought his unacceptable traits into 21st century society. Bond’s masculinity is what has made it possible to believe that everyone must look like Bond. The 21st-century wants to avoid the toxic traits of sleaze wearing a suit. Bond’s view is out of line with modern man standards. Bond’s views on alcohol abuse and women are unacceptable.

In Skyfall, Bond is the quintessential symbol for toxic masculinity. Bond treats women in this film as candy wrappers, making it a misogynistic movie. Bond is seen holding two women in one hand while holding a stubby the other. This silent treatment does not represent a love gesture. Mid shot: Severine is holding her hands and a shot scotch on her head. This scene shows Bond’s toxic façade. Let’s see which one wins. Bond interprets this as target training and ignores the fact Severine is on the brink of death. Bond is unable to see Severine’s face after he died. “What a waste!” Bond’s reaction is completely callous. It qualifies Severine as a ‘dartboard’ and a valueless object, which is to never be mentioned again. This franchise condones the disposal of women. That is what is wrong. It’s all about movement in the 21st-century. This film teaches parents the exact opposite about how they want their children to learn. Although Bond is fictional, your actions can cause damage to modern society. It’s all about helping people open up. Skyfall has been heavily modulated by toxic norms like “men don’t cry” and “grow balls”. Mendes captures the moment when Bond attempts to enter MI6 through a middle-shot. The audience can easily see what is going on. Mendes captures the moment of truth when Bond tries to gain entry into MI6. Bond knows it. He is heavy breathing, and he is sweaty. It’s easy to see why Bond finds it so difficult when he is wheezing and his veins pop. Bond agrees that the agents stop testing him. Bond does not want to be compliant. Bond collapses to his knees after the agents leave. His eyes…he’s not happy. It’s not unusual for men in 21st-century society to be hurt. This is a mind virus. A virus spreading throughout the 21stcentury is fueling people’s tendency to do and think wrong.

Skyfall is promoting these toxic beliefs. This ideology of masculinity reinforces the belief in men not having to express emotion. This is why Australia has such high suicide rates. Three women sought help from a man for every three that did not. 75% of intentional self harm (3128) was committed in men (2349). This is the reason why men are not allowed to show emotion or seek out help. These statistics show that Bond’s outdated and absurd views are well-known. This statistic shows that Bond fans will fall for a dangerous and toxic idea that James has made.

Skyfall does not endorse what the archetype of man in 21st-century America is. Stereotypical ideas are harmful. Too damaging. Gender norms are out of date and teach viewers to cry. Toxic masculinity cannot be accepted in society today. This franchise presents a dangerous version of masculinity that is acceptable for the 21stcentury.
