Welcome

College Park Rotary Club President Jane Dunlap Callahan 2010-2011

Welcome to the Rotary Club of College Park! Our Rotary Club is a local service club of approximately 30 members that is part of an international service organization, Rotary International. Rotary International is the world’s first service club organization, with more than 1.2 million members in 33,000 clubs in more than 200 countries worldwide. Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. As signified by the motto Service Above Self, Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. As a part of Rotary International, our Rotary Club members provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.

Our Rotary Club members decide which activities and projects to undertake each year and we also have the support of being a part of the worldwide network of Rotary Clubs. Our Club meets weekly, on Thursday mornings for breakfast at the Dubsdread Country Club in College Park.

The Club members also enjoy fellowship activities that include family and friends.

We are a group of local business and professional leaders working to improve our world. We start right here in the College Park community. Our projects include a Student of the Month recognition program (for students from our local schools), a Book Drive, a Barbeque Dinner, Edgewater Drive cleanup, Meals on Wheels, and sponsoring a room at the Ronald McDonald House. We also participate in projects for the benefit of the worldwide community, such as raising funds to finally end Polio in the world with Rotary International’s End Polio Now project.

Our Club sponsors students each year to participate locally in a Rotary leadership training event. We also encourage world peace by sponsoring high school exchange students coming to our community from other countries to experience life in the United States, and by sponsoring United States exchange students going to experience life in other countries. We participate in international service projects, to bring relief to some of the poorest communities in the world.

Our signature event to raise funds to support our service projects and to benefit charitable organizations is The Taste of College Park. We present an event to remember, showcasing local restaurants with wine pairings (and local beer), with a silent and live auction. The Taste of College Park brings together our College Park community for fun and fellowship and an opportunity to raise funds for many local and international charitable activities.

The mission of Rotary International is to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through its fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders. We welcome you to visit our Rotary Club to learn how we take our part in this worldwide mission.

Please join us for a meeting to learn more about Rotary — we meet at the Dubsdread Golf Club banquet room every Thursday morning at 7:30.
